Welcome back UB Students

  • August 25th, 2008

The fall semester is here! I know I know, that means summer is over…but it also means that Livingstones is back!

Our first fellowship is this friday (check the weekly schedule on the right). This semester our friday bible studies will focus on “The heart of David.” Phanith will be introducing the bible studies this friday night.

We also have a couple events right off the bat to start off this semester. Hillsong will be in Toronto this saturday. We will be going for the evening concert. So if you have a passport/greencard and $35-$40, feel free to join us. We will probably leave in the afternoon (it is a 1.5 hour drive) and return late saturday night after the concert. We will have signups and further details this friday night.

On the weekend of 9/19-9/21 we have our fall church retreat. This year we will be at Niagara Bible conference center in Olcott (on Lake Ontario). It is about an hours drive away (rides will be provided of course). Registration will start next week, so stay tuned…

Our english Sunday services will be starting up in september, and our english sunday schools as well.

Church Picnic

  • August 24th, 2007

Welcome back to Buffalo everyone.  Tomorrow (Sat. 8/25) we have an all church picnic from 11AM-3PM at a park in Williamsville.  Give me (Ed) a call if you need directions or a ride.  I think the park is close to Tim Ho’s house…so maybe he could give you better directions.

Thanks girls…

for a good BAD. My stomach feels very appreciated. Thanks for taking time out of your busy lives to cook for us.

Everybody’s Story

  • March 1st, 2007

In anticipation of this week’s bible study, here’s a quote from John Steinbeck on the story of Cain and Abel…

“I think this is the best known story in the world because it is everybody’s story. I think it is the symbol story of the human soul. The greatest terror a child can have is that he is not loved, and rejection is the hell he fears. I think everyone in the world to a large or small extent has felt rejection. And with rejection comes anger, and with anger some kind of crime in revenge for the rejection, and with the crime guilt - and there is the story of mankind.”

John Steinbeck, East of Eden

Also I have 3 “used once for body worship” red t-shirts left (S,L,L) and 3 hoodies left (M, XL, XL). If there is enough demand, and I get payment in advance…we can re-order more. But the price will probably be higher the second time around (unless there is huge demand).

T-shirts

  • February 21st, 2007

T-shirts and Hoodies will be in this Friday fellowship.

$19.99 for T-shirt + Hoodie

$7.99 for T-shirt

$14.99 for Hoodie

T-shirts are either red or green (colors shown below). Limited number of green (8 left), so claim yours with David now. Hoodie’s are white. There are more limited quantities that last year…so we may run out this year.

Superbowl

  • February 5th, 2007

Hope you guys had fun last night. Tim “Tank” Chiang (aka “TC” aka “Ivan Drago”) remains the undisputed champion in wii boxing despite valiant efforts by Latino Heat and lil Jenny. Will anyone rise up to defeat Tim? And steady Bubba Lew showed off his expertise in balancing triangles and pentagons with a flower.

Anyways, about the game…I came away impressed with Tony Dungy when he was at the podium recieving the Lombardi trophy. How he felt privileged to be the first African-American head coach to win the superbowl, but how he felt it was more significant to show that you can win it all while remaining a faithful Christian and acting accordingly. I always cringe a bit when people thank God in postgame or postaward interviews, especially when musicians whose music clearly espouse a way of living anathema to biblical living tack on a somewhat trite tribute to God, or when athletes give credit to God in a way that makes it sound like God was on their side (even though the other side was also praying). But Dungy’s profession was much more honest, and consistent with his demeanor and way of life and way of coaching. I obviously don’t know whether he is a righteous person or not, but in everything that I’ve heard from him in previous interviews, he seems to be a pretty honest Christian. I thought that the words he chose reflected a humble attitude and proper acknowledgment of God…and didn’t smack of the usual artificiality that makes me cringe. Of course, all the articles I’ve read today on the superbowl only take his reflections on being the first African-American, and no one has used any of his quotes that reflect his faith (I guess the liberal media extends into the sportswriting world as well).
